George Harrison and Pattie Boyd,1968

In the photograph below, Beatles’ guitarist and singer/songwriter George Harrison is captured alongside Pattie Boyd, a former model, photographer, and author who was once his wife. During this period, Boyd found herself entangled in one of rock and roll’s most infamous love triangles, involving Harrison and Eric Clapton. Notably, Clapton’s renowned song “Layla,” along with a majority of the tracks from his album “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs,” were actually inspired by his real-life affection for Boyd, who was still married to Harrison.

Surprisingly, when Clapton initially penned this song of unreciprocated love for Boyd, he and Harrison were best friends. However, enduring Harrison’s continuous infidelity and blatant disrespect took its toll on Boyd, leading her to grow weary of the situation. Eventually, she made the decision to leave Harrison and be with Clapton. Despite choosing Clapton, Boyd, now 74 years old, continued to maintain her friendship with Harrison. This enduring bond lasted until Harrison’s battle with cancer ended, leading to his passing in 2001.
